A wedding at The Venue at Fairview is always a treat, and as a wedding photographer this is one of my most memorable weddings because the bride and groom had the best time. With Jason’s family roots in Winterton, the couple chose to celebrate at this new gem of a venue. Nestled in the countryside near the Drakensberg Mountains, The Venue at Fairview is fast becoming one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most charming destination wedding spots and it’s easy to see why.

The Venue at Fairview Has a Modern Industrial Reception Area

The reception space at Fairview is modern yet welcoming, with clean lines, exposed brick, and thoughtful design that suits any wedding style. For the Nels, it perfectly complemented their minimalist approach, while still feeling warm and celebratory. Photographing in this space allowed me to play with angles, natural light, and the energy of the evening it was a joy to capture the laughter, speeches, and dance floor moments here.

Minimalist Style and Meaningful Details

Kelly and Jason chose a minimalist wedding style, focusing on what mattered most: their story, their people, and the beauty of the setting. Every detail carried meaning, from personal vows to thoughtful décor touches. Most importantly, their energy defined the day they leaned into every moment, creating a celebration that felt both intimate and unforgettable.

The Open-Air Chapel Beside the Dam

For the ceremony, guests gathered at the open-air chapel set along the water’s edge. With the dam shimmering in the background and the Drakensberg peaks just visible in the distance, it was an extraordinary setting. The simplicity of the chapel let nature take center stage, and the emotion of the vows carried across the water with breathtaking effect. Kelly had all her guests gasping for air as she read her emotional but hilarious vows.

After the ceremony, canapés were served overlooking the scenic landscape. Guests relaxed into conversation as the golden afternoon light washed across the hills. These quieter in-between moments always provide some of my favorite candid photographs of friends reconnecting, children playing, and families sharing heartfelt toasts against a backdrop of pure Midlands beauty.

A Creative Shoot in the Golden Grass

For the couple shoot, we stepped into the tall, warm grasses that surround the property. As the sun dipped lower, everything was bathed in that magical golden glow. Jason and his bride embraced the moment fully their laughter, energy, and chemistry made for photographs that feel alive with joy. It was one of those sessions where every frame captured exactly who they are together.
